About INCITE Guidance Benefits Call 6 Euro-India ICT initiative Did You Know?

Impetus to R&D-INCITE

INCITE (Indian Networks Co-operation in Information Society Technology with Europe) wants to facilitate R&D cooperation between India and Europe in the IT sector. Its mission is to spread awareness on the access to the IST funding programme of the European Commission to the Indian IT community and to support the creation of a National Contact Point (NCP) as a permanent body linking the IT community of India to the activities of the IST programme.
The INCITE project started in June 2005 and will run until May 2007, with three ambitious objectives:

  • Helping Indian organisations access and benefit from the EU funding to research in the ICT sector
  • Promoting IT co-operation at research level between India and the European Union
  • Setting up a permanent platform for co-operation between India and the European Union

INCITE is brought together by a consortium of highly reputed organisations. The lead European partner is TESEO (Technical Support for European Organisations) and the lead Indian partner is ITSMA (Interactive Technology, Software and Media Association). The other participants are INNOST (Italy), GAIA (Spain), MHEST (Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology) - Slovenia, IIT-b (Indian Institute of Technology, Bangalore), IISc (Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore) and C-DAC(Center for Development of Advanced Computer).

Did you know?

Indian organisations have been eligible for funds under the EU´s 6th Research Framework Programme since 2002. In the sub-programme dealing with Information Society Technologies, Indian organisations are involved in 16 successful projects, which makes India the 7th most succesful non-European country. For comparison, China is the second most succesful non-European country with Chinese organisaions involved in 31 succesful projects. Until the 4th IST call for proposals, Indian organisations have received more than 600,000 EUR of EU funding.

Get guidance from the EU specialists on submitting proposals
EU specialists In order to assist third country nationals (countries not part of the EU) in submitting proposals to the European Union, a series of sessions are organised to provide guided assistance. Representatives from Europe will be present personally to provide all forms of assistance and answer queries pertaining to submitting proposals to access European funding. These awareness sessions are organised for the sole benefit of Indian organisations. The next session is scheduled for 23rd and 24th of February, to be held in Bangalore, immediately followed by similar sessions in Pune and Mumbai.

INCITE offers exquisite benefits to Indian organisations in the ICT sector. It exposes the competencies of Indian organisations to European counterparts. This in turn will Benefitshelp European organisations find a complementing Indian partner for research projects in the ICT sector. In turn INCITE provides assistance on issues related to calls, submitting proposals, project management, financial reporting, and practical tips for Indian organisations that wish to access European funding on research.

More opportunities to avail funding from the EU for R&D projects

The IST Call 6 has been published - December 22nd, 2005.

Indian organisations are fully eligible to access funding in all thematic domains. Given below are the thematic areas of Call 6. The respective RTD Instruments through which funding can be accessed is listed below along with the indicative budget:

The objective of the Call 6 is to improve the European and international policies to encourage and facilitate the participation in current and future Community ICT research of organisations of all types. The call wants to reinforce international co-operation, therefore Indian organisations should exploit this opportunity to access the funding avaialble under Call 6.

The Euro-India ICT Co-operation initiative - complementing INCITE

Opportunities for Indian ICT players to partner with EU projects will be revealed at the Euro-India ICT Co-operation workshop in Kharagpur on February 2nd 2006. "Opportunities for Indian partners in European Commission projects", hosted at Indian Institute of Technology, will bring to light the different project opportunities, the various partner profiles sought and the mechanisms for partner-searching and project-application. There are strong advantages in attending this seminar, not only in terms of knowledge and information gathering, but also because it represents a concrete opportunity to become a partner in future projects.

This is the third Euro-India ICT Co-operation thematic ICT workshop which, together with comprehensive training, will provide community members with a platform that brings together ICT proposers and potential partners with a view to increased participation of Indian ICT players in European funded research.
